Hand-wound, combined with history: the Breitling Premier Heritage collection

In 2018, Breitling launched the Premier series, reviving the 1940s men's formal watches in a contemporary way, confirming its mission to transcend sports and aviation styles and enter a more elegant market segment. This week, the watchmaker launched a retro-inspired extension of the collection, aptly called the “Premier Heritage,” which features three classic chronograph styles among the past six new models. Further elaborating on its historical pedigree, two of the modern timepieces feature hand-wound mechanical movements.

The first wave of Premier Heritage models were available in the Chronograph, Duograph (chronograph with split-seconds function) and Datoro (calendar with moon phases). The Premier B09 Chronograph 40 is available in a 40mm stainless steel or 18K rose gold case, the former with an unusual pistachio green dial and the latter with a silver dial. Both watches are powered by Breitling's in-house Caliber B09, a hand-wound version of the company's flagship base movement (the self-winding chronograph integrated B01), equipped with a column wheel, vertical clutch and a 70-hour power reserve .

The Premier B15 Duograph 42 is slightly larger, measuring 42mm in both the rose gold and steel models. The steel model has a blue dial and the gold model has a black dial and is powered by the Breitling Caliber B15, a hand-wound movement. The automatic watch B03 is its first in-house movement to feature a split-seconds function, allowing two elapsed times to be measured simultaneously thanks to two superimposed stopwatch hands. Like the Chronograph model, the Duograph dial features a tachymeter scale on the periphery of the dial for measuring speed against time and distance.

The Premier B25 Datoro 42 differs from its two siblings in a number of ways, not only does it have a chronograph function, but it also has day, date, month and moon phase displays on the dial (copper on the steel version, or silver ) - Color, 18K rose gold model). Its movement, the Breitling Caliber B25, is based on the outsourced ETA 2892-A2 and retains the automatic winding function rather than being redesigned for manual winding like other Premier Heritage models. The Datoro case is 42mm in diameter and is powered by Caliber B25, a column wheel driven chronograph that beats at 28,800 vph and has a power reserve of approximately 48 hours.

What all Premier Heritage watches have in common are the Arabic numerals on the dial and the hands with vintage luminous treatment. The case is water-resistant to 100 meters; a “semi-glossy” alligator leather strap with tone-on-tone stitching; and COSC Observatory certification, proving the reliability and accuracy of each watch and its movement.
